1. Resident Physician »

  • Doctor of Medicine
  • Graduate of any College/University

DETAILED PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

  1. Provide timely attention and care to all the patients in the emergency room.
  2. Follow policies and procedures in patient’s triaging, flow and admission.
  3. Evaluate the patient by performing the complete history and through physical examination.
  4. Inform the patient/families of disease condition, or disability, severity, prognosis, benefits, and possible adverse effects of treatment options and approximate cost of treatment. If the patient has an attending physician, the resident maybe directed by the said physician to inform the patient they said provisions in his absence.
  5. Inform patient/families on the nature of test or treatment, the need for it prior to admission, it is likely effects and side effects, and what can be done to handle them. If the patient has an attending physician, the resident maybe directed by the said physician to inform the patient they said provisions in his absence.
  6. Request essential laboratory/ancillary tests.
  7. Refer/coordinate with the attending physician the management and disposition of the patient.
  8. Properly endorse to incoming resident on duty all admitted patients during his tour of duty and those who are still in the Emergency Room at the time of endorsement.
  9. Perform procedures necessary to patient care e.g. lumbar puncture, intubation and femoral tap.
  10. Perform other duties and responsibilities of similar nature or otherwise as may be assigned by the Medical Director, E. R. Section Head or Consultants.

Ward:

  1. Provide timely attention and care to all the patients in the ward.
  2. Follow-up and monitor the status of patients in the ward.
  3. Update the attending physician of the status of admitted patient.
  4. Attend to all referrals in the ward, evaluate and refer patient to the attending physician.
  5. Request necessary laboratory/ancillary tests.
  6. Properly endorse to incoming resident on duty the patients in the ward.
  7. Assists in the operating/delivery room for surgical, obstetrical and gynecological cases.
  8. Join in the ward rounds with consultant.
  9. Perform other duties and responsibilities of similar nature or otherwise as may be assigned by the Medical Director or consultants.

RECORD MANAGEMENT:

Emergency Room and Ward:

  1. Ensure legible and understandable written entries on the patient’s chart.
  2. Document comprehensive patient history, physical examination and diagnosis in the patient’s chart.
  3. Document patient’s plan of care in the patient’s chart.
  4. Document information given to patient/families.
  5. Fill up all pertinent hospital forms needed in the management of the patient e.g. clinical pathway, Clinical Practice Guideline.

ADMINISTRATIVE:

  1. Ensures efficient flow of service in the Emergency Room during tour of duty.
  2. Assist the Chief Resident in preparing the Resident’s monthly schedule of duties.
  3. Attend monthly meeting with Medical Director.
  4. Attend meeting with the different hospital committee as designated by the Medical Director.
  5. Attend regular meetings with co-residents.
